Commissioning & Aftercare

A system is only as good as its commissioning. We balance, measure and document every installation — and stay with you for the life of the system.

Why commissioning is not optional

An MVHR system that is switched on but never balanced may supply far more air to one room than another, extract poorly from bathrooms, and create noise — all while appearing to work. Without measured airflow data at every terminal, there is no way to know whether the system is actually performing to its design specification.

Proper commissioning requires calibrated airflow measurement equipment, knowledge of the system design targets, and the ability to adjust dampers, fan speed and bypass settings to achieve balanced flow. It is a technical process — not a switch-on.

For Passive House certification, commissioning documentation is a mandatory requirement. For all other high-performance installations, it is simply the difference between a system that performs and one that doesn’t.

Signs of an under-commissioned system

  • Noisy airflow in some rooms
  • Stuffy or stale air in certain areas
  • Poor extract from bathrooms or kitchen
  • Condensation on windows despite running system
  • High energy use relative to design
  • Uneven comfort across different rooms
What We Offer

Commissioning and aftercare services

Commissioning & Airflow Balancing

Every supply and extract terminal is measured and adjusted to achieve the design airflow rate. We balance dampers, optimise unit settings, and verify the total airflow is within specification. You receive a commissioning report with all measured values versus design targets.

Third-Party Commissioning

Engaged to commission a system you didn't install? We assess the installation first — checking duct routing, terminal positions and unit settings — before proceeding with balancing. Any installation issues are flagged in writing.

Annual Service Visits

Periodic servicing covers filter replacement, heat exchanger inspection and cleaning, condensate management, fan check, and airflow spot-check. All work is documented in a service record.

Filter Supply & Replacement

We supply genuine replacement filters for all MVHR brands we service and can arrange annual postal supply. Filter replacement is the single most important maintenance task for MVHR performance and longevity.

Performance Diagnostics

If your system is noisy, airflow feels reduced, or indoor air quality has deteriorated, we can diagnose the root cause — dirty filter, blocked heat exchanger, duct issue or unit fault — and resolve it.

Commissioning Reports

Full written commissioning reports with all measured airflow readings, unit settings, filter status and any remediation actions. Formatted for Passive House certification, NCC compliance and homeowner handover.

Aftercare — keeping your system performing

MVHR systems are low-maintenance, but they are not no-maintenance. Filters need replacing, heat exchangers need periodic cleaning, and airflow should be checked annually to catch any drift from the commissioning baseline. A neglected system degrades gradually — often without the occupant noticing until performance is significantly compromised.

Every 6–12 months

Filter replacement — the most critical maintenance task. We supply filters for all brands we service.

Annually

Airflow spot-check and unit inspection. Fan condition, condensate management, bypass function.

Every 3–5 years

Full recommissioning. Airflow at every terminal remeasured and rebalanced. Heat exchanger deep clean.
