Where it fits

Where decentralised MVHR works best

Decentralised MVHR is through-wall heat recovery ventilation for individual rooms or small zones. It is most useful when you want continuous filtered fresh air but a whole-home duct network would be difficult, disruptive or unnecessary.

Existing homes

Renovations and retrofits

A practical option for finished homes where ceilings and walls are already closed and running central ductwork would mean major building work. Each unit connects directly through an external wall.

Room by room

Bedrooms, studies and living areas

Useful where a particular room feels stuffy, holds moisture or builds up CO₂ overnight. The system provides controlled ventilation without relying on open windows or uncontrolled draughts.

Compact projects

Apartments, additions and small dwellings

Well suited to apartments, granny flats, extensions and staged upgrades where only a few rooms need treatment or there is limited space for a central unit and distribution ductwork.

Choose decentralised MVHR when…

  • • You are improving an existing or already-finished home
  • • One room or a small group of rooms needs better ventilation
  • • Suitable external walls are available for through-wall units
  • • You want to avoid the disruption of a full duct installation

Consider ducted MVHR when…

  • • You are building new or undertaking a major renovation
  • • You want one coordinated system serving the whole home
  • • Duct routes can be planned before ceilings and walls are closed
  • • Precise whole-home supply and wet-room extraction are priorities

What we check

The right unit depends on more than room size

We check wall construction and depth, required airflow, room use, acoustic expectations, filter access, electrical supply and whether a paired push-pull or continuous balanced unit is the better fit. That design work matters just as much as the product choice.
